donates to the
Essex County Cherry Blossom Restoration
- Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr joined with members of the Essex County Master Gardeners to thank the volunteer organization for donating $1,000 to the Essex County Cherry Tree Planting Campaign. The generous contribution purchased four Cherry Trees that were recently planted in Essex County Branch Brook Park in Newark. The Master Gardeners of Essex County are proud to be working with the County Executive to increase the number of Cherry Trees in Branch Brook Park and to enhance the beauty of the Essex County Parks System and create more opportunities for the public to enjoy its open spaces.
Essex County Executive N. DiVincenzo kicked off his multi-year initiative to plant more Cherry Blossom trees in Branch Brook Park after reading an article in The Star-Ledger that brought to light the fact that the number of the famed flowering trees had dwindled to less than 1,000. He has invited the public and corporations to participate in a campaign to raise $300,000 to purchase and plant 2,000 new Cherry Blossom Trees in Essex County Branch Brook Park and throughout the Essex County Parks System. Collecting public and corporate donations is the second phase of the County Executive multi-year initiative to increase the number of Cherry Blossom Trees in Branch Brook to over 5,000 by the year 2010.
