Welcome to the home of the Master Gardeners of Essex County.

A unique group of trained volunteers who provide horticultural programs and services to enhance their communities in Essex County.

Operating under the aegis of the Master Gardeners of Essex County and the Cooperative Extension of Rutgers University, the Education Committee provides educational outreach throughout Essex County. It adopts as its mission the dissemination of research-based horticultural information to both children and adults in the hopes of developing groups of individuals skilled in the techniques which will lhelp us preserve our natural resources through good gardening practices.

 Activities of the Master Gardeners of Essex County are up and running for the 2009-2010 year.

• Greenhouse- meets every Tuesday morning at 10 am until noon. We have already cleaned the greenhouse from the summer and began to propagate plants for the plant sale in May of 2010. Come one and all.

• The Grounds Committee - meets at Garibaldi Hall every Tuesday morning. They help maintain and beautify the area around Garibaldi Hall.

• Horticulture for Seniors committee meet once a month. See Calendar for topic.

• GROW committee [Community Outreach Program]. They are working with the Sierra Club and the East Orange General Hospital in sprucing up their grounds.

• The Education committee is working with Liberty Middle School in West Orange about setting up a gardening program.

• Helpline

• The State Committee - keep us informed on State Master Gardening activities, they meet once a month in New Brunswick.

• The Master Gardener 's Class started. It is in its third month.
